Our story

Based in Hebden Bridge in the the north west of England. Mirlo England was established by partners Poppy Cartwright & Matthew Shelton. Their quest, bring beauty to everyday objects with an emphasis on a thoroughly modern approach to design and craft.  Caring for preservation of craft skills, Poppy & Matthew produce highly crafted products designed for the home, restaurants and retail.

Drawing inspiration from abstract and expressive mark making, colour and collage. The collection of ceramics take on an imperfect organic composition. Glazes are textural and surfaces bare the impression of coil hand building resulting in unique pieces. The collection is a true expression of traditional craft techniques paired with a contemporary aesthetic.

Following the brand philosophy and affection for craftsmanship, tableware aims to enhance the sensory and aesthetic experience of dining and connection to food.

Poppy studied Fashion design at the Royal College of Art and worked in commercial design for practices in the UK and Italy, before moving into ceramics and textiles. Poppy continues to teach fashion at Manchester School of Art and is currently planning creative ceramic & textile workshops with Matthew, to be available in 2020, at their home in Hebden Bridge.
